Are you free on August 17 or 18? Want to create a day of great memories with your family without breaking the bank? Want to see men in kilts? Then get thee to the library for FREE passes to the PA Rennaisance Faire!

We’ve received a limited number of complimentary tickets from the Renn Faire to reward our Summer Reading Club (SRC), which is on the verge of topping 1,000 members.

Haven’t joined SRC yet? There’s still time; the club runs through August 10. Joining is quick and easy, and there are fun rewards — like a free book when you sign up and chances to win prizes — in addition to the Renn Faire tickets (normally $31.95 for adults and $12.95 for kids 5 and up).

The tickets are good for the weekend of Aug. 17 & 18 — Celtic Weekend — which will feature Highland Games (for both grownups and nipperkins), bagpipers, a Kids in Kilts exhibition, plus the aforementioned Men in Kilts competition — but there is so much more to see and do there.

If you’ve never been, you may not realize just how big of an affair the Renn Faire really is.

The event is in its 39th season and takes place over 13 weekends, from Aug. 3 through Oct. 27. There are more than 90 stage shows daily on the 35-acre village grounds — including ‘The Return of the Queen‘ — plus more than 20 Royal kitchens and scores of artisan merchants and handmade wares. Go here to view or download the 16-page 2019 program with all the details, a map, and more.

The Faire takes place on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate in Manheim. That’s about 90 minutes from the library — or 15 miles north of Lancaster and 13 miles east of Hershey — which is a ways, but also a nice day out for a tank of gas.

Parking is free, and you can even bring your dog along (costume optional!). Read all the details here and please note that you have to apply 10 business days in advance and purchase a pass for your furry friend.

Ready to reward yourself for all that summer reading with a trip to the Renn Faire? Visit their website for all info and come in to the library to get your tickets (and sign up for SRC if you haven’t already). Not only will you have a great time at the Faire, but you’ll also become part of our largest Summer Reading Club ever!
