This list contains many titles in the categories of children's, fiction, biography, and non-fiction.  It is a very long list, so please scroll down so that you may view all of the titles

Children's list

The year 2007 marked the end of a reading phenomenon:  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last of the seven book series by J. K. Rowling, was released in July amid much publicity.  Most fans and many of our readers felt the book merits the attention and deserves the number one spot on the Best Juvenile Books of 2007 list.  The remainder of the list follows.

From the Young Adult collection Dreamquake:  Book Two of the Dreamhunter Duet by Elizabeth Knox, a Printz Award Honor Book, is a favorite with teens who love fantasy.   This one concerns dreams and their origins.  For those YAs who love fictional adventure, Peak by Roland Smith tells the story of a 14 year old boy trying to become the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest.  And for the gamers in the crowd, Epic by Conor Kostick, a game designer turned author, creates a world where disputes are settled in virtual reality games.  There is no war, but who controls the games?

Younger juvenile fiction readers will enjoy Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis about the runaway slave haven of Buxton in Canada.  Elijah, the first freeborn child, tries to expose some dishonest adults.  For those who like some humor in their books, No Talking by Andrew Clements pitches the class blabbermouths, a boy and a girl, into a “no talking” contest with laugh-out-loud results.  Jack Plank Tell Tales by Natalie Babbit shows how a pirate finds a second career as he tires of the hard life on the high seas.  For those who need inspiration,  The Talented Clementine by Sara Pennybacker surprises everyone, even herself, for the school “Talent Palooza”.  This easier read includes a load of laughs also.  And there is one non-fiction book that must be mentioned, Living Color written and illustrated by Steven Jenkins in the science section of the library.  This bright book features colors and how animals use them for protection.  We love science books that are accessible to children as young as 4 and as old as the librarians!

A Good Day by Kevin Henkes leads this list of picture book favorites for 2007.  After overcoming some small problems, a dog, a bird,, a fox and a squirrel  enjoy a really good day.  In Fox by Kate Banks, the young animal leaves home with his parent’s encouragement.  Eve Bunting’s farm animals in Hurry! Hurry! race through the barnyard to see the new chicks hatch.  Knuffle Bunny Too by Mo Willems sees the return of the beloved Knuffle Bunny, but he has a twin!  This makes for fun at school.  In a realistic divorce story, the family dog, a favorite with neither parent, moves between Mom’s house and Dad’s house with their daughter who asserts “ Fred Stays With Me” , a book  by Nancy Coffelt
