Be a Reading Hero and keep track of the time you spend reading to yourself (or others) from June 15th through August 15th, and win prizes along the way! Readers from 1st grade through high school may sign up as either Independent Readers of Family Readers (who have people read to them). Register at the Circulation Desk. The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by Friends of the Emmaus Public Library.
Special speakers and events! No registration is required for these events.
· Tuesday, July 7th at 2 pm.– Fire Call! author George DeVault talks to kids about being an Emmaus firefighter.
Thursday, July 16th at 7 pm. - "Bob
McLeod - Drawing the heroes of
Superhero ABC". Bob McLeod, illustrator and author of The Superhero ABC draws and talks to kids about drawing superheroes!
· Monday, July 20th at 2 pm. Cindy Schmaldinst talks to kids about the local food pantries, and how to be an At Home Hero helping others in the community.
· Tuesday, July 28th at 2 pm. Come and meet the Bethlehem Mounted Police, and their horses. More At Home Heroes!
· Closing program - Thursday, August 13th at 7 pm. DaVinci Science Center presents: Healthy Choices, Embracing the Superheroes Within Us All
Drop in Storytimes are on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am. July 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, August 5th & 12th.
Block Parties are once a month on Wednesday mornings at 11 a.m. July 1st, and August 5th. All ages welcome! No registration required. Come and build with the library’s architectural blocks!
Summer Hero Movies showing once a month on Tuesday afternoons. July 14th at 2 pm, and August 4th at 2 pm.
Fun Family Films are once a month on Thursday evenings. July 30th at 6:30 pm; August 20th at 7:00 pm.
Literary Lunch JR – book discussion group for kids entering 4th and 5th grades in September. Meeting once a month on Tuesdays (instead of Saturdays, as during the school year), as listed below, at noon. Participants bring a bag lunch, and the library will provide a drink and dessert. First ten to sign up receive a free copy of the discussion book. July 14th -Holes by Louis Sachar. August 11th - Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Registration required.

Teen Read – book discussion group kids entering 9th – 12th grades in September. Thursday, July 9th, 7 pm – Divergent by Veronica Roth & Thursday, August 6th at 7 pm – The Princess Bride by William Goldman. First five to sign up receive a free copy of the discussion book. Registration required.
Books and Barks! Come and read to the Lehigh Valley Therapy dogs. Once a month, on Thursday evenings, July 23rd, & August 27th at 6:45 – 8 pm.

Read A Book, Win A Prize Annual Adult Summer Reading Program. For every book or audiobook you rate/review, you can enter to win gift certificates from Emmaus businesses. Winner will be announced July 30.
Blind Date With A Book Throughout the summer, pick up a wrapped book based on its description and comparison with other titles you might have enjoyed. Take it home and unwrap it to see what you’ll be reading.

Mad Men: Let’s Talk About That Finale Popular presenter Barbara Cole presents a discussion of Mad Men, emphasizing the final season. No registration required. Monday, July 27. 7:00 PM
Free Blood Pressure Screenings. The Pennsylvania Department of Health will be at the Library for blood pressure screenings. Appointments are not required. July 27. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
